Making the Monster

16-year-old Dan Wolfe has been acting for most of his life. So when he saw the opportunity to audition to become a scare actor at The Darkness Haunted House during The Oddities & Curiosities Expo this past summer, he jumped at the opportunity. "I love acting and I love scaring people so putting them together was the right choice, Wolfe said." Despite this Halloween season being his first as a scare actor, Wolfe is already regarded as one of the best actors on the team. "He has really taken the time to know what works in his scene," said actor manager Jennifer Killian. "He has taken the time to create a unique character and taken direction from his managers and leads on how to perfect his work."

State of Waste Episode 3: Trash on the move

State of Waste is a five-episode podcast done by students from the University of Nebraska’s College of Journalism and Mass Communication’s Environmental Depth Reporting class about solid waste management and landfills in Nebraska. Students were placed into teams of four with the responsibility to create an episode of the series.

In this episode, my group takes a look at the Sarpy County Transfer Station and how it is an example of the future of waste disposal.

My contributions include: collecting natural sounds, recording interviews, creating a script, editing together the episode in Adobe Audition and uploading it to online platforms.

The State of Waste project received a 2021 Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists in the Region 7 Podcast category.
